Javid Moslehi Shares New Website for the ICI-Myocarditis International Registry

Javid Moslehi, Section Chief of Cardio-Oncology and Immunology, Professor in Residence at University of California, shared on LinkedIn:

“Pleased to share the new website for the ICI-Myocarditis International Registry:

This effort started Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a simple but important challenge: ICI-associated myocarditis was rare, potentially fatal, and no single institution would ever see enough cases to fully understand it.

What began at Vanderbilt has since grown into a remarkable international collaboration, now including more than 1,800 cases from 189 institutions across 30 countries.

A major reason for that growth has been Joe-Elie Salem! His vision, scientific leadership, and extraordinary ability to bring investigators together across countries and disciplines have helped make this registry what it is today.

The collaboration has already produced important work advancing our understanding of ICI myocarditis, from its ECG manifestations and cardiomuscular biomarkers, to the role of LV systolic dysfunction, thymic alterations and susceptibility, and most recently development of a risk score for ICI-associated myocarditis.

More than any individual paper, however, I think the registry demonstrates what can be accomplished through sustained international collaboration around a rare but devastating complication of cancer immunotherapy.

Deeply grateful to Doug Johnson, Joe-Elie, and the many investigators, trainees, clinicians, and institutions around the world who have contributed patients, data, ideas, and years of work to this effort.

And we are continuing to grow. We welcome additional academic centers interested in contributing to the registry, as well as opportunities to

  • partner with industry to address important unanswered questions
  • accelerate translational research
  • ultimately improve the safety of cancer immunotherapy.”

More thoroughly about ICI-Myocarditis International Registry:

  • The ICI-Myocarditis International Registry is a multinational research initiative investigating myocarditis associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), a serious and potentially fatal complication of cancer immunotherapy. The registry examines its predictors, severity, and impact on patient survival.
  • The registry brings together data from 1,825 cases, enabling researchers to study this rare complication on a scale that individual hospitals and clinical trials cannot easily achieve.
  • Main contribution to cancer treatment is helping make immunotherapy safer. By improving the understanding, recognition, and risk assessment of myocarditis, the registry supports better-informed clinical decisions and may help clinicians manage this serious adverse event while patients receive immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy.
