Ilyas Sahin: Can We Stop Lung Cancer Before it Becomes Invasive Blocking PI3Kδ

Ilyas Sahin, Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, shared on X:

“Can we stop lung cancer before it becomes invasive?

A new Nature study found a network of immune cells called eTregs in high-grade precancerous airway lesions, and showed it can also be tracked in blood. In people with early lung cancer found through screening, stronger eTreg signals were linked to earlier recurrence.

In mice, blocking PI3Kδ disrupted this network and reduced tumor development and size. A promising step toward catching and treating lung cancer earlier, but more research is needed to see whether this works in people.”
