Hong Jae Chon Shares Study on Low-Dose Bevacizumab and Atezolizumab Enhancing TACE in HCC

Hong Jae Chon, Director of Cancer Center, CHA Bundang Medical Center, shared on X:

“New in Journal of Hepatology: Is ‘less is more’ the key to combining TACE with systemic therapy in HCC?

  • TACE leaves a hypoxic, structurally immature vascular niche driven by PDGFC⁺ TAMs, fueling immunosuppression and pericyte-to-CAF transition.
  • Low-dose Bevacizumab + Atezolizumab with TACE promotes vascular normalization, boosts CD8⁺ T cells, and improves survival vs. high-dose, while preserving hepatic function:

PFS: 9.73 vs. 7.43 mo (HR 0.66, P=0.036)

OS: 31.4 vs. 21.3 mo (HR 0.58, P=0.022)”
