George Vlachogiannis: Imaging challenges in malignant pleural mesothelioma
George Vlachogiannis, Executive Editor of Cancer Control at Sage Publishing, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Carmine Picone et al. published in Cancer Control:
“Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) poses significant challenges in imaging assessment due to its unique growth pattern.
In this Cancer Control Mini Review, researchers from IRCCS, National Cancer Institute G. Pascale Foundation, Naples, Italy emphasize the importance of mRECIST 1.1, a refined methodology merging mRECIST and RECIST 1.1, to ensure accurate, reliable, and reproducible MPM tumor measurement.
Additionally, the integration of iRECIST criteria enhances response evaluation in immunotherapy trials, addressing challenges like pseudoprogression.
By adopting a standardized imaging approach, clinicians can improve diagnostic accuracy, optimize treatment response evaluation, and advance research in MPM.”
