“A new standard for follow up colonoscopies.
A positive noninvasive colorectal cancer screening test signals that a follow up colonoscopy is needed. But for too long, what happens after a positive result has gone largely untracked by the health care system.
That’s starting to change. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) just released a new Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) quality measure holding health plans accountable, for the first time, for whether patients actually get a follow up colonoscopy after an abnormal screening test.
FightCRC helped shape this measure by serving on NCQA’s Cancer Measurement Advisory Panel and pushing for years through state legislation to protect access to follow up colonoscopies.
