Very happy to share our new preprint, a collaborative study led by Thomas Grünewald and Moritz Gerstung and their teams in Heidelberg DKFZ German Cancer Research Center!

Why do patients with Ewing sarcoma, a cancer mainly affecting children and young adults, experience such different clinical outcomes?

Our study suggests that it’s not just about the tumor cells themselves, but also about how they are organized and interact with their neighbors.

Using spatial transcriptomics to analyze more than 3 million cells from 135 patients, we identified distinct cellular neighborhoods that define four tumor profiles associated with different clinical outcomes.

One particularly exciting finding is the identification of an immune-reactive tumor profile associated with better survival.

A great example of how cutting-edge technologies and international collaboration can help us better understand cancer and move towards more personalized medicine!

This study is currently available as a preprint and has not yet undergone peer review.”
