Elisabetta Bonzano: NK Cell biology in the tumor microenvironment and beyond

Elisabetta Bonzano, Radiation Oncologist at IRCCS San Matteo Polyclinic Foundation, shared a post on X about a paper by Doryan Masmoudi et al. published in Journal of Experimental and Clinical Cancer Research:

“Natural killer cells: the immune frontline against circulating tumor cells.

This review discusses the biology of NK cells, focusing on their functions within the tumor microenvironment (TME), the lymphatic system, and circulation.

Examines the immune evasion mechanisms employed by cancer cells to inhibit NK cell activity, including the upregulation of inhibitory receptors.

Explorers the clinical implications of monitoring circulating biomarkers, such as NK cells and CTCs, for therapeutic decision-making, and emphasizes the need to enhance NK cell-based therapies by overcoming immune escape mechanisms.”
