“Precision medicine is transforming oncology, but fully understanding the genomic complexity of lung cancer remains a critical challenge. I’m thrilled to share our team’s latest research, just published in Genes MDPI: ‘Clinical Utility of Broad-Panel Profiling in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Pairwise Co-Mutational Gene Patterns and PD-L1 Associations Define Stage-Specific Prognosis‘.
In this study, we explored the potential of comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) in the clinical management NSCLC.
Key findings:
- STK11, TP53, KRAS, and LRP1B mutations are independently associated with poorer survival outcomes.
- The combination of these identifies patient subgroups with an even more unfavorable prognosis and a higher risk of recurrence.
- A significant stage-dependent association emerged between tumor genomics and PD-L1 expression.
- In I-III early-stage tumors, mutations in genes such as PIK3CA, PTEN, and ARID1A correlate with higher PD-L1 expression. Conversely, in advanced stages, alterations in genes like STK11, KEAP1, and ERBB2 are significantly associated with lower levels of PD-L1 expression.
This evidence highlights how essential it is to integrate comprehensive genomic characterization into clinical practice right from diagnosis, allowing for better risk stratification and the optimization of personalized therapeutic strategies.”
