Dégi László Csaba: Thrilled to announce the new Lancet Oncology Policy Review analyzing NCCPs worldwide

Dégi László Csaba, President of the European Cancer Organisation, shared an article by Yannick Romero on LinkedIn:

“LANCET ONCOLOGY|POLICY PAPER!

Thrilled to announce our new Lancet Oncology Policy Review analyzing National Cancer Control Plans (NCCPs) worldwide!

Working with 77 expert reviewers across WHO regions, we examined 156 cancer control plans, revealing both progress and opportunities:

Key findings:

  • 72 new NCCPs launched since 2018
  • 81% now include cancer research strategies
  • 91% address tobacco control
  • Stronger stakeholder engagement
  • Enhanced palliative care planning

Areas needing attention:

  • Only 27% include detailed cost assessments
  • Just 14% have specific health equity goals
  • 21% lack monitoring & evaluation strategies

This collaborative effort will help guide countries in strengthening their cancer control efforts and improving patient outcomes globally.
