“Big breakthroughs rarely come from playing it safe or listening to the noise
Leading the tarlatamab program was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Our offsites were fun and energetic with encouragement to find ways to challenge the dogma or as I called it ‘flipping the x-ray’. It took a great team, a lot of persistence, and the willingness to make difficult decisions without losing sight of what really mattered: the patients.
The Phase III DeLLphi-305 results are remarkable and a important milestone: median overall survival of 21.1 months with a 58% reduction in the risk of death when tarlatamab was added to durvalumab as maintenance therapy in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer. Wow.
The team knew we had to challenge the usual approach, not only to improve outcomes in extensive-stage disease, but also to explore what might be possible in limited-stage SCLC. Go early earlier was our theme.
I love what this team accomplished and grateful to everyone who helped move the program forward. It sure wasn’t easy. The work was demanding, but the reason for doing it was always clear: patients. Congrats to the team.”
