How Do You Measure the Value of Donor-Funded Oncology Research? – Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation

“How do you measure the value of donor – funded oncology research?

For Ahmet, it could be measured in the moments a father gets to spend with his children.

When Ahmet was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, his first thoughts were of his wife and their three young children. ‘I was thinking,

‘What did I do for this? I have three kids to raise,’ he recalls.

A referral in 2024 to oncologist Dr. Alison Schram – a researcher whose work was supported by Conquer Cancer donors – profoundly changed his trajectory. Through advanced genomic testing, Dr. Schram identified a rare genetic marker in Ahmet’s cancer, allowing him to enroll in a clinical trial evaluating a targeted treatment.

The results were lifechanging. Within just four months, Ahmet’s tumors shrank by approximately 50 percent, and his health, appetite, and energy were fully restored. Thanks to this research, Ahmet is back to doing his most important job: being a dad.

Read Ahmet’s incredible story.”
