Medicated Patch Delivers Anticancer Therapy Directly to Oral Lesions – Asian Fund for Cancer Research

Asian Fund for Cancer Research, shared on LinkedIn:

“AFCR – Supported Oral Cancer Research Marks Important Progress!

New Phase 2 clinical trial results highlight the potential of an innovative medicated patch that delivers anticancer drugs directly to affected oral tissue, offering a less invasive approach to treating non-invasive oral cancer and high-grade precancerous lesions.

  • 95.5% achieved a complete response: 21 of 22 patients had no remaining disease detected in the treated areas after one treatment cycle.
  • All 22 patients avoided their planned surgery.
  • No recurrences were observed at a median follow-up of 14 months.

For patients who may otherwise face repeated oral surgeries, this progress offers hope for less invasive treatment options that could help preserve speaking, eating, and swallowing abilities and improve quality of life.”

More thoroughly about medicated patch and PRV111 from this research:

PRV111 is an investigational, nanoengineered topical patch developed by Privo Technologies to treat non-invasive oral cancer and high-grade dysplasia without surgery.

The polymeric patch delivers high concentrations of cisplatin directly into abnormal oral tissue while minimizing systemic drug exposure. In the Phase 2 CLN-004 trial, 21 of 22 evaluable patients achieved a pathologic complete response after one treatment cycle, while the remaining patient’s lesion was downgraded to low-grade dysplasia. All patients avoided planned surgical excision.

At a median follow-up of 14 months, no recurrences were observed. These preliminary findings suggest PRV111 may offer a tissue-preserving, non-surgical treatment option.
