Anirban Maitra: Colorectal Cancer Incidence in US Adults After Recommendations for Earlier Screening
Anirban Maitra, Scientific Director of Sheikh Ahmed Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research and Professor of Pathology and Translational Molecular Pathology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on X about recent paper by Elizabeth J. Schafer et al., published in JAMA Network.
“The striking annual percentage change (APC) for localized early onset Colorectal Cancer in the 45-49 age group after the lowering in age of screening from 50y to 45y.
Too many earlier onset CRC are still being missed in the 40-44y age group.
Default FIT testing or office sigmoidoscopy should be offered after 40y to everyone. Most of the non syndromic early onset cancers in the 40-44y age group are rectal cancers. Default FIT tests have a higher uptake than colonoscopy and cheaper.”
