Angelo Minucci: New Insights Into 5FU-Induced Cardiotoxicity and Genomic Risk

Angelo Minucci, Head of the Unità Diagnostica Molecolare e Genomica Semplice Dipartimentale (UOSD), shared on LinkedIn:

“Honored to have contributed to this review on 5FU-induced cardiotoxicity and the evolving role of pharmacogenomics in precision cardio-oncology.

Our work, built around a case of life-threatening 5FU cardiotoxicity, highlights an important clinical challenge: severe toxicity can occur despite negative standard DPYDscreening.

By WES, we identified additional pharmacogenomicvariants that may have contributed to the patient’s susceptibility, reinforcing the value of broader genomic approaches to better understand unexpected severe adverse drug reactions and support more personalized therapeutic decisions.

A special thank you to Prof. Tommaso Sanna for his leadership and for giving me the opportunity to be part of this study, and to all my co-authors for their expertise and dedication.

It has been a privilege to work alongside such an outstanding Team.”
