Andrea Boutros, Assistant Professor at University of Genoa, shared on X:
“Chronic toxicity after adjuvant anti-PD-1 for melanoma: new in JAMA Network Open 303 patients, 5.6 years of follow-up: 48% developed chronic irAEs, and 1 in 3 still had one at last visit.
Hypothyroidism, arthritis and dermatitis lead the list.
Needing steroids raised the risk of persistence, especially when the irAE started early, and 8 circulating cytokines were higher in chronic cases.
Adjuvant patients may already be cured by surgery: long-term toxicity belongs in the discussion before starting.”
