Alireza Mansouri: Predicting Brain Metastasis Development in NSCLC with Innovative Nomograms

Alireza Mansouri, Associate Professor at Penn State Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Thrilled to announce our team’s latest publication in the Lancet group!

Leveraging an extensive review of existing literature alongside our comprehensive database of 1,904 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, we’ve identified and validated key clinical predictors for the development of brain metastases (BrM).

Our retrospective analysis, encompassing a 22.8% BrM incidence rate, culminated in two innovative time-dependent nomograms:

  1. A baseline model utilizing cTNM staging and age at diagnosis, and
  2. An extended version incorporating extracranial metastatic sites, prior radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical interventions, and histological subtypes.

These tools, grounded in routinely accessible patient records, enable precise risk stratification without necessitating advanced molecular testing—ideal for resource-constrained environments.

Explore the free interactive nomogram online.

This advancement promises enhanced prognostic modeling and informed patient counseling. What are your thoughts on integrating such predictive analytics into clinical practice?”
