Mario Mandalà: The Impact of SRT in Melanoma Patients with Brain Metastases Receiving Combo Immunotherapy
Mario Mandalà, Director of Medical Oncology at S.M. Misericordia Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Perugia, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Just published in European Journal of Cancer our manuscript which addresses the impact of SRT in melanoma patients with brain metastases receiving Combo immunotherapy.
Main messages:
1) Stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) may improve OS in patients with melanoma brain metastases (MBM) receiving COMBO.
2) The impact of SRT is independent of timing (concomitant vs sequential).
3) Number of MBM at baseline are associated with OS.
4) Regardless the number of MBM, patients may benefit from SRT.
Limitation:
- Retrospective study.
- Waiting for the results of prospective studies including ABC-X study and ETOP 19-21 USZ-STRIKE study.
Thanks to all coauthors for this academic study … a special thanks to Paolo A. Ascierto, Teresa Amaral, Georgina Long, Caroline Robert, Piotr Rutkowski , Sergi Chiara, Paul Lorigan, my friends of the Italian melanoma Intergroup.”
