“New research. Real-world impact.
I’m honored that my company, Cancer Wellness for Life, one of the healthcare-integrated exercise oncology programs I helped develop, is featured in the latest issue of the Translational Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine.
This qualitative case study, led by Dr. Jessica (Jess) Gorzelitz and colleagues, explored five U.S.-based healthcare system exercise oncology programs using the EPIS implementation framework.
Each program had a unique structure but shared common threads—clinical integration, leadership buy-in, outcome tracking, and evidence-based care – definitely worth a complete read!
Highlights from our program:
- Embedded within a hospital system.
- Individually tailored exercise sessions based on patient complexity.
- Fully integrated into the EMR for care coordination and documentation.
- Free to patients, with staff trained in oncology-specific assessment and programming.
- Physician champions and nurse navigators helped drive early adoption.
- Focused on “speaking the language of the clinic and the patient”.
This research doesn’t just highlight the “what”—it highlights the “how.” Implementation matters.
For healthcare systems looking to integrate exercise oncology into routine cancer care, this article offers practical insights grounded in real-world practice.
