OncoDaily Medical Journal is pleased to announce the launch of the “Cancer in Latin America in 2026” Special Series. This series is co-edited by Luiz H. Araujo, MD, a leading Brazilian medical oncologist, and Cecília Lameirinhas Longo, MD, a medical oncologist at Rede Américas. Together, they bring deep regional insight and scientific leadership to this important initiative.
The series aims to provide the research, practice, and policy communities with critical insights and evidence on cancer control efforts across diverse Latin American settings, offering a comprehensive overview of cancer control strategies, healthcare system performance, and policy implementation across the region.
Accepted manuscripts for this special series will be fast-tracked for publication and prominently featured as part of this ongoing series.

- Epidemiology, Prevention and Early Detection: Understanding cancer incidence and mortality trends, risk factors, screening programs, and early detection gaps across heterogeneous Latin American populations.
- Healthcare System Disparities: Examining how structural, financial, and geographic barriers influence access to timely, high-quality cancer care, including diagnostic delays and treatment inequities.
- Policy, Implementation Science and Health System Strengthening: Analyses of national and regional cancer control plans, policy innovations, implementation research, and system-level strategies that support sustainable improvements in cancer care.
- Treatment Advances and Integration: Studies on the adoption, integration, and outcomes of novel therapies, such as immunotherapies and targeted agents, across real-world clinical settings in Latin America.
- Technology, Digital Health, and AI in Cancer Care: Exploring how artificial intelligence, telemedicine, and digital health tools are reshaping cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up in Latin American health systems.
- Lung Cancer Biomarkers and Regional Collaborations: Research on lung cancer biomarkers in Latin American populations, and work that leverages or promotes collaborations with regional scientific communities (e.g., GBOT, LACOG) to increase awareness and drive research forward.
