Last Saturday was one of those unforgettable days when the power of sport transcended competition and became a message of solidarity. On the occasion of World Childhood Cancer Day, Real Madrid C.F. and Real Sociedad joined the solidarity campaign “Pañuelo Challenge”, an initiative led by Fundación Aladina to raise awareness and show support for children and adolescents battling cancer.
A Symbolic Gesture at the Bernabéu
On February 15, recognized globally as World Childhood Cancer Day, Fundación Aladina invited institutions and individuals to take part in the Pañuelo Challenge a movement designed to stand with young patients facing cancer.
In a powerful demonstration of unity, players from both teams stepped onto the pitch at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium wearing solidarity scarves tied around their wrists. The gesture, simple yet deeply meaningful, served as a visible reminder of the courage and resilience of children undergoing cancer treatment.

Five Young Warriors at the Heart of the Match
The day became even more special for five brave children Lucas, Elías, Cris, Iván, and Jorge, who have been cared for by Fundación Aladina. The young patients walked onto the field alongside the players, experiencing a moment that transcended sport and offered them joy, recognition, and hope.
For these children and their families, the match was more than a sporting event; it was a celebration of strength and solidarity, and a testament to the collective commitment to improving the lives of pediatric cancer patients.
Raising Awareness Through Sport
The collaboration between two of Spain’s leading football clubs highlights the influential role of sport in driving social awareness. By participating in the Pañuelo Challenge, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad amplified the message of World Childhood Cancer Day to millions of fans worldwide, reinforcing the importance of continued support, research, and compassionate care for young patients.
Fundación Aladina’s initiative not only honors the bravery of children with cancer but also calls on society to stand beside them—symbolized by a simple scarf worn with pride.
As expressed by those involved in the initiative, gratitude was extended “from the bottom of the heart” for the generosity and commitment shown. In moments like these, football becomes more than a game; it becomes a platform for hope.
