Tom Cavanaugh: Johnson & Johnson Announces FDA Approval for New Head and Neck Cancer Treatment

Tom Cavanaugh, Worldwide Chairman at Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:

“Head and neck cancer is a complex disease that can profoundly affect patients and their families. And when the disease returns or spreads, there remains a significant need for new treatment options.

Today, Johnson & Johnson received accelerated U.S. FDA approval for a new treatment for adults with advanced recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinomas.

This milestone reflects our commitment to move with urgency and bring new options to people facing significant unmet need.

Science has the power to change the course of serious diseases, but breakthroughs don’t happen overnight. They are built over years through persistence, investment and collaboration.

Thank you to the patients who participated in the clinical studies and to the many teams who helped make this possible. We are committed to delivering for the patients and families counting on us.”

Joshua Bauml, Lung Cancer DAS Leader at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, shared Tom Cavanaugh’s post, adding:

“This is an important moment for the head and neck cancer community, Tom. Having treated people with head and neck cancer, I know how challenging recurrent or metastatic disease can be for patients and their families, and why meaningful advances in care matter.

This approval is a reminder of what we can accomplish together across research, clinical care and the patient community. There is more work ahead, and we’re committed to continuing that work together to improve outcomes for patients and their families.”
