Pavlos Msaouel: STaRMC is Now Activated and Open to Enrollment at MD Anderson Cancer Center

Pavlos Msaouel, Associate Professor of Genitourinary Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am glad to share that STaRMC is now activated and open to enrollment at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

STaRMC (Sacituzumab Tirumotecan against Renal Medullary Carcinoma; NCT07438626) is an investigator-initiated phase II trial evaluating sacituzumab tirumotecan, a TROP2-directed antibody-drug conjugate, in patients with SMARCB1-deficient renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) whose disease has progressed on at least one prior line of therapy.

The rationale is grounded in RMC biology published here.

Our integrated molecular profiling showed that RMC frequently upregulates TROP2, and the well-documented sensitivity of RMC to topoisomerase-targeting agents makes a TROP2-directed ADC with a topoisomerase-1-inhibitor payload a compelling match. The first RMC patients treated with a TROP2 ADC showed encouraging responses and this is the signal STaRMC is designed to test rigorously.

RMC is a rare and aggressive cancer that disproportionately affects young people. Outcomes have improved meaningfully over the past several years, but we still lose far too many patients. STaRMC is a key stepping stone toward changing that.

Deep thanks to our protocol team, our collaborators, and above all our patients and their families for getting us here. This is one step in a longer, deliberate effort to build better options for everyone facing RMC.”
