“Today, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) signed an agreement to strengthen cancer prevention and control initiatives across the Americas.

As part of this new agreement, we will collaborate to support the implementation of World Health Organization (WHO) cancer initiatives, provide technical support for regional and country-level implementation, and build capacity to enhance cancer programs in Latin America and the Caribbean.

These efforts include the Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative and the Global Breast Cancer Initiative.

We are incredibly proud of our MD Anderson team whose dedication helped us achieve this significant milestone. A heartfelt thank you to Kathleen Schmeler, M.D., Associate Vice President, Global Oncology Program; Sarah Berger, Associate Vice President, Cancer Network; Melissa Lopez Varon, Program Director, ECHO, Cancer Network; Toma Omofoye, M.D., Director of Breast Imaging for Global Oncology Program; Reina Guerrero, Program Manager, Cancer Network; Mark Moreno, Vice President, and Chief Government Relations Officer; and Ed Miller, Executive Director, Government Relations, for your hard work and leadership.

A special thank you to our PAHO colleagues Anselm Hennis, Director of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health; Mauricio Maza, Regional Advisor for Cancer Prevention and Control; Silvana Luciani, Unit Chief, Noncommunicable Diseases, Violence, and Injuries Prevention; Kayiba Medlen, International Professional Consultant; Nathalia Katz, ECHO ELA; Pablo Jimenez, Regional Advisor in Radiological Health; and Jarbas Barbosa, Director of PAHO, for your invaluable support of this effort.
