Sendurai Mani: From Window Seats to First Class: A Journey of Humility and Gratitude.

Sendurai Mani, Associate Director for Translational Oncology at the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University, shared on LinkedIn:

“From Window Seats to First Class: A Journey of Humility and Gratitude

Life has a remarkable way of showing us how far we’ve come, often in the most unexpected moments. I remember the first time I ever saw an airplane up close. It wasn’t during my childhood; it was when I was embarking on a new chapter to the USA for my postdoctoral studies, fresh off completing my PhD. My friend and I were practically competing for the window seat, both of us eager to see the world from a whole new perspective.

Fast forward to today, and I found myself traveling in first class. The difference was, to put it mildly, astonishing. While it’s true that whether you’re in Economy, Business, or First Class, we all reach the same destination, I’ve always been intrigued by the unique experience that first class offers. It’s hard to ignore airlines’ subtle way of reminding us of the difference. As we board and disembark, we’re led through the luxurious first and business-class cabins before reaching the more humble confines of the economy-class seats.

In first class, passengers are treated like royalty. The food, service, and comfort are an entirely different world.

So, as I sat there, relishing the first-class privileges, I couldn’t help but feel humbled and grateful for the journey that led me here. From competing for window seats to enjoying the luxury of first class, each step has been a lesson in humility, hard work, and gratitude.

What’s truly awe-inspiring is how life shows us various things and how crucial it is to remain humble, regardless of where we travel. The planes we catch and the seats we sit in are just tiny chapters in our much larger life story. I constantly remind myself to fill my story with gratitude and humility. A heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped me to come this far.”
