Khaled Ghanem: Outpatient expansion of the BASMA Pediatric Oncology Unit to accommodate 16 additional chemotherapy chairs for Syrian children

“After completing our inpatient expansion, we are pleased to announce the start of the expansion of our outpatient facility to allow us to accommodate 16 additional chemotherapy chairs for Syrian children with cancer, increasing our total capacity to 28.”

Khaled Ghanem, M.D. is a Consultant Pediatric ncologist and the Medical Director of the BASMA Pediatric Oncology Unit in Damascus, Syria. Ghanem is also a Pediatric Hematology Oncology Research Fellow at the American University of Beirut. Dr. Ghanem’s main area of interest is childhood cancer care in areas of conflict and crisis.
He has been intensively involved in the capacity building of childhood cancer care in his own country since the end of the Syrian war in 2018. He is a regional pediatric oncology leader and received multiple international awards from ASH, EBMT and was recently selected for the first SIOP Young Rising Star Award during SIOP 2022 in Barcelona.
