Pournima Kale: AI Will Not Replace Oncologists, It Will Empower Them
Pournima Kale, Assistant Professor at , shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The Moment I Realized AI Won’t Replace Oncologists, It’ll Empower Them
A breakthrough changed my perspective on technology in healthcare.
Sometimes, a single moment can change everything. Here’s a snippet from my journey that led to a profound insight.
It was during a tumor board meeting last week. I watched as our team analyzed complex radiation treatment plans.
Then, something unexpected happened: Our new AI system spotted a subtle pattern in the imaging that we’d almost missed.
In that moment, I realized AI isn’t here to take our jobs – it’s here to make us better at them.
This realization transformed my outlook:
AI can handle repetitive tasks, freeing us for patient care
Technology enhances our decision-making, not replaces it
Machine learning helps spot patterns we might miss
AI tools make treatments more precise and personalized
We can focus more on the human side of medicine
The future of Radiation Oncology isn’t about AI vs. humans.
It’s about AI + humans.
Together, we’ll provide better care than either could alone.
This isn’t just about survival – it’s about thriving in a new era.
What’s your take on AI in healthcare? Have you had a moment that changed your perspective on technology?
