Mark Lewis: New MEN1 Guidelines – My Personal Perspective As a Patient, Parent, and Physician
Mark Lewis, Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Intermountain Healthcare in Utah, shared a post by The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology on X, adding:
“As a patient, parent, and physician (my own “3 Ps” of MEN1) I tried to impart my personal perspective to these guidelines, which I hope will be helpful to any clinicians treating the syndrome but most of all to families trying to mitigate the lifelong risk of hereditary tumors.
I am also profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be an invited co-author of this manuscript with true global leaders in the fields of endocrinology and oncology, who have been profoundly welcoming to me since my diagnosis in 2009 and entry into advocacy shortly thereafter.
The flowchart above was partly inspired by how I’ve thought through approaches to young patients like my son but this algorithm is more broadly applicable.”
