Sachin H. Jain: Imagine a U.S. Healthcare System without Immigrants…
Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO of SCAN Group and Health Plan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What would happen if every immigrant disappeared from our healthcare system tomorrow?
It’s a question that’s both hypothetical and deeply revealing.
In my latest Forbes piece, I imagine a U.S. healthcare system without immigrants. The result is stark: entire hospitals would be understaffed or shut down, care in underserved communities would grind to a halt, and millions would lose access to life-saving support.
Immigrants aren’t a supplement to our system.
They are its lifeblood.
From frontline clinicians to essential support staff, immigrant professionals make our healthcare system possible. Yet we rarely acknowledge their contributions, and even more rarely create policies that reflect their value.
This isn’t just about fairness.
It’s about function.
I hope this piece sparks a broader conversation about how we recognize, retain, and empower immigrant talent in American healthcare.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Especially from those working in healthcare, public policy, and immigration.”
