Gonzalo López-Cuevas: Standing With Families Affected by Cancer Through Empathy and Collective Action

Gonzalo López-Cuevas, Founding President of Cancer Warriors of Mexico, Treasurer at Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We grow as a foundation because our backgrounds are diverse and our purpose is shared: to improve the lives of others.

As 2025 approaches its close, I share this image taken a few days ago, representing part of the team of Fundación Cáncer Warriors de México, where I have the honor to serve as president.

Over these days, we had the opportunity to accompany and support hundreds of families across Public Hospitals in Mexico City—families whose daughters or sons are hospitalized with serious conditions, most of them cancer.

For us, this is what living the holiday season through humanity truly means. There will be time to gather with family and friends; today, these families are the ones who most need warmth, presence, and solidarity.

In this image, you will find lawyers, physicians, researchers, academics, communicators, homemakers, and friends. Because when a public challenge—such as cancer control—calls on us, what matters most is:

– Empathy, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

What is required is a beating heart and collective intelligence: the ability to understand, organize, and act for the benefit of others.

I send you a warm embrace, with the hope that this season reminds us that, above all else, we are humanity.”
