Amy Comander: About the importance of addressing lifestyle factors as a key component of oncology care
Amy Comander, Director of Lifestyle Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Centre, posted on LinkedIn:
“Sharing a recent article where I was interviewed by Mass General Brigham about the importance of addressing lifestyle factors as a key component of oncology care. As I note below, ‘treating the whole person, not just the cancer, is essential in oncology care.’ At the Mass General Cancer Center, we have a dedicated Lifestyle Medicine Program, where we focus on treating the whole person, not just an individual’s cancer.
Our Lifestyle Medicine Program offers individualized consultations about the important role of lifestyle medicine in cancer care, as well as group visits focused on key topics in lifestyle medicine. For patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer, we offer the PAVING the Path to Wellness Program, a 12-week introduction to the important role of lifestyle medicine for breast cancer survivors.
The goal is to apply evidence-based lifestyle medicine strategies to improve overall health, well-being, and even treatment outcomes.”
