Discussions around ABIM MOC

The discussions among ABIM’s Maintaining Certification (MOC) program continue on X/Twitter.

This time a conversation sparked around a recent post on X by Mark Lewis, Director of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Intermountain Healthcare:

“Exactly a year since the ABIM first famously advertised the liberation of Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment during travel, I got an email while overseas that they’d informed my hospital credentialing department that I am no longer in compliance with Maintenance Of Certification.”

Chadi Nabhan, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Strategy of Ryght, replied:

“Indeed, Mark Lewis. Nothing much had changed despite our efforts. In fact, American Board of Internal Medicine, removed our ability to provide feedback on LKA Qs when answering.

Others keep trying, but indeed business as usual for them.”

Amer Zeidan, Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology) at Yale University, added:

“For the 2nd quarter in a row I had an MDS question with an incorrect answer in LKA.

In both instances, questions were not updated to reflect recent updates, which speaks to how outdated this approach is. As Chadi Nabhan said, now you can’t even provide feedback to correct them.”

In the past, Vincent Rajkumar, Aaron Goodman and Rami Manochakian have also spoken up about the Maintaining Certification (MOC) program. Find more information here.
