Theodore DeWeese: I am honored and humbled to become the next Dean of the Medical Faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine
Theodore DeWeese, renowned radiation oncologist, shared on LinkedIn:
“I keep this quote from one of our founders at my desk. It’s always been a touchstone, and it will guide me on the journey ahead as my colleagues and I continue our work to improve the human condition.
After serving in an interim capacity for 18 months, I am honored and humbled to become the next Dean of the Medical Faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
My hope is that the next chapter in our history will be known as one of renewal…a renewal that happened because all 44,000 of us rededicated ourselves to who we are and what we believe in. Johns Hopkins Medicine has always been a beacon of promise, hope, and caring, because we are people who keep patients at the heart of everything and pursue excellence in all we do.
Going forward, we commit to our mission anew amid what is surely a golden age for biomedicine. With personalized, precision care that’s tailored to the individual; tools like AI and data science radically improving our ability to make scientific breakthroughs; and a movement to make medical education more diverse and more accessible to all, we can and will interpret the meaning and the purpose of Johns Hopkins Medicine for a new era.
Dr. Osler’s quote says it all. Day by day, through our individual efforts and as a unified team, we will give our best energy, and we will reach our collective ambitions on behalf of the communities we serve. The future of JHM is so bright. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next.”
