About Dr. Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy

Dr. Bhoo-Pathy practices as a public health physician at the University Malaya Medical Centre and has been a visiting scholar at Queen’s University Belfast since 2014. Her research focuses on enhancing cancer survivorship through advocacy and innovative strategies.

She was the principal investigator of phase III of the ASEAN CosTs In ONcology (ACTION) study, which involved nearly 10,000 cancer patients from eight low- and middle-income countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Currently, she serves on two Lancet Commissions: the Lancet Commission on Women and Cancer and the Lancet Commission on Cancer and Health Systems.

As the founder and scientific lead of the solution-oriented research group “Well with Cancer in Malaysia (WeCan@MY),” Dr. Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy oversees a diverse range of studies on cancer care, cancer control, and cancer policy, both locally and globally.
