Dr. Iyad Sultan, MD, is a distinguished pediatric hematologist–oncologist and a leading figure in health informatics, clinical leadership, and childhood cancer care in the Middle East. He currently serves as the Chief Health Informatics Officer and Full Member in the Department of Pediatrics at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) in Jordan, where he integrates decades of clinical expertise with digital innovation to enhance pediatric oncology outcomes.

Dr. Sultan completed dual fellowships in the United States: a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina and a General Pediatrics Fellowship at the State University of New York. He is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Since joining KHCC, Dr. Sultan has held multiple leadership roles that shaped the foundation of pediatric cancer care in Jordan. He began as Assistant Member in 2005, later becoming Head of the Pediatric Solid Tumors Service in 2009 and Associate Member in 2010. In 2011, he assumed one of the institution’s most significant roles: Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, where he oversaw major advancements in clinical services, quality improvement, and pediatric cancer protocols nationwide.

In 2017, Dr. Sultan was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Jordan, reflecting his long-standing commitment to academic excellence and training the next generation of pediatric oncologists. In 2018, he expanded his impact by joining the Cancer Care Informatics Program at KHCC, where his expertise bridges clinical oncology with data-driven systems to improve decision-making, workflow, and patient-centered outcomes.

A respected researcher, Dr. Sultan has authored influential publications that address some of the region’s most pressing oncologic issues, including cancer among Syrian refugees, cost-effective chemotherapy strategies, retinoblastoma genetics, and the optimization of sarcoma management. His work appears in leading journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, Pediatric Blood & Cancer, Ophthalmic Genetics, and JCO Global Oncology.

Dr. Sultan is an active member of key professional organizations, including the Jordan Society of Pediatric Oncologyand the Jordan Medical Association, where he contributes to advancing national standards for pediatric hematology/oncology.

His scholarship spans diverse and impactful topics—from the genetics of retinoblastoma to the comparative biology of rhabdomyosarcoma in children versus adults, to pioneering outpatient models for high-dose chemotherapy. His work has helped redefine pediatric cancer care in Jordan, particularly in underserved populations.
