Dr. Hagar Elghazawy, MD, PhD, is a consultant medical oncologist with a strong clinical and academic focus on breast oncology, early cancer detection, and clinical research. She currently serves as Assistant Professor and Consultant of Clinical Oncology at the Breast Cancer Unit, Clinical Oncology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, and as a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Cairo Cure Oncology Cancer Center, Cairo.
Dr. El-Ghazawy graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, in 2007. She completed her postgraduate training in Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, earning her Master’s degree in 2012 and her Doctorate (PhD) in 2017. She progressed through successive academic and clinical positions at Ain Shams University, including Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer, before her current appointment as Assistant Professor. Throughout her academic career, she has been actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship of early-career oncologists.
To broaden her international clinical and academic perspective, Dr. El-Ghazawy completed advanced observer-ships in 2018 at the Breast Cancer Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy Departments at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the CyberKnife Center at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Houston, USA. She further enhanced her translational and research expertise through the Practical Cancer Genomics for Oncologists Course at St George’s University of London (2021) and the Egypt Clinical Scholars Research Training Program in collaboration with Harvard Medical School (2022). She also holds a Breast Cancer Diploma from Northwestern University, delivered in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Health (2023).
Her clinical and research interests include breast cancer early detection and comprehensive management, gynecological malignancies, genetic testing and hereditary cancer syndromes, and the integration of precision oncology and genomics into routine clinical practice, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. She is actively involved in clinical trials, in addition to previous roles as study coordinator and sub-investigator in international trials.
Dr. El-Ghazawy has authored and co-authored numerous publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, including JCO Precision Oncology, The Oncologist, JCO Global Oncology, International Journal of Cancer, Cancers, and JNCI Cancer Spectrum. She is also a reviewer for the NCCN Framework Guidelines for Breast Cancer and a frequent speaker at national and international oncology conferences, including BGICC, ESMO-related meetings, and academic oncology forums across Egypt and the region.
Through her combined roles as clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Hagar El-Ghazawy is recognized for her commitment to advancing breast cancer care, strengthening oncology education, and promoting research-driven, patient-centered oncology practice.
