Dr. Filipe Coutinho is a medical oncologist with a dedicated clinical and academic focus on geriatric oncology and palliative care. He currently practices at the Médio Ave Local Health Unit in Portugal, where he provides comprehensive care to patients with gastrointestinal, including gastric and colorectal, and breast cancers. He is also a core physician of the Hospital Palliative Care Team, contributing to integrated, patient-centered care throughout the disease trajectory.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Coutinho is actively involved in medical education. He serves as an Invited Assistant Professor and Co-Coordinator of the Clinical Oncology Module for 5th-year medical students at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Beira Interior, where he teaches general oncology, geriatric oncology, and medical communication. His academic interests center on improving oncology education and promoting structured training in geriatric oncology for healthcare professionals.

Dr. Coutinho is the Founder and Coordinator of the Geriatric Oncology Working Group of the Portuguese Society of Oncology and represents Portugal as the National Representative to the International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG). In recognition of his contributions to the field, he received the SIOG National Representative of the Year Award in 2023. He also serves as a Board Member of the Young SIOG Governance for the 2024–2026 term.

His professional activities extend to scientific publishing and research collaboration. Dr. Coutinho serves on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Geriatric Oncology, Geriatrics (MDPI), BMC Cancer, and ecancermedicalscience, and is a member of the Cancer and Aging Research Group and the Multidisciplinary Scientific Council of the Portuguese Society of Gerontology and Geriatrics. His research interests focus on treatment decision-making and supportive care in older adults with cancer, as well as on advancing educational strategies in geriatric oncology.
