Does an onco-geriatrician need to sit on every tumour board, or can targeted referral for geriatric assessment work just as well?
This cohort of 170 patients aged 70 and older with colorectal cancer compared outcomes for those who underwent comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) against those managed without it, in a model where an onco-geriatrician joins every multidisciplinary tumour board and refers selectively.
Despite greater frailty and comorbidity in the CGA group, rates of major complications, severe toxicity, treatment interruptions, and 90-day mortality were similar between the two groups.
