Sean Park, Professor of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic, shared on LinkedIn:
“Exciting milestone in radiation oncology: the first-ever human experience with minibeam radiation therapy (MBRT) at Mayo Clinic.
This article describes the translation of MBRT into clinical treatment – using sub millimeter, spatially separated radiation beams to create high-dose ‘peaks’ and low – dose ‘valleys’.
It represents an important first step in evaluating whether this approach can maintain effective treatment while better sparing normal tissue.
A tremendous multidisciplinary effort to bring an innovative concept from preclinical research to patient care.
Congratulations to the entire team – and especially gratitude to the patients who make advances like this possible.”
