Marcin Kubeczko, Medical Oncologist and Radiation Oncologist at Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, shared on LinkedIn:
“Antibody-drug conjugates have transformed breast cancer treatment. Radiation therapy remains a cornerstone of care.
But what happens when our patients need both? And the majority of them do!
I am delighted to share our new publication in Radiotherapy and Oncology:
What did we find?
- 29 studies involving 3,817 patients.
- We evaluated the safety of combining radiation therapy with T-DM1, T-DXd, and sacituzumab govitecan (SG)
- Severe complications following extracranial radiation therapy were uncommon across ADC classes.
- Combining intracranial radiation therapy with T-DM1 raised safety concerns, particularly regarding radiation necrosis.
- No comparable radiation necrosis signal was identified with T-DXd or SG.
And this is not the end of the story!
These findings provide the evidence base for the next step of our project: translating the available data into practical expert recommendations through an international Delphi consensus process. Stay tuned!
A special thank you to Icro Meattini, Luca Visani, and Carlotta Becherini for leading this project, and to all our fantastic co-authors – the Florence 2026 International Consensus Investigators.
It is a real privilege to be part of such an outstanding international team and to have had the opportunity to present these findings at the 2nd Florence International Consensus.
A wonderful experience, both scientifically and personally!”
