Andrea Cosenza, Research Scholar at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, shared on LinkedIn:
“I am thrilled to share our new paper, published today in JAMA!
Using the National Cancer Database, we examined contemporary patterns of focal therapy use in patients with nonmetastatic prostate cancer diagnosed between 2010 and 2023.
Among 15,672 patients receiving focal therapy, 51% had low-, high-, or very-high-risk disease; settings in which routine use of focal therapy is not supported by current guidelines.
These findings highlight the importance of carefully evaluating how focal therapy is being adopted in clinical practice while robust comparative and long-term evidence continues to evolve.
Extremely grateful to my mentors and all my coauthors for their guidance, support, and collaboration throughout this work!”
