Nehemias Guevara-Rodriguez, Hematology Oncology Fellow at Saint Louis University, shared a post by The Lancet Group, adding:
“Struck by the urgency of this message on the cover of The Lancet (June 7, 2025):
‘If we in academic medicine give in to the campaigns against diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, the consequences will include resegregation and fewer opportunities for marginalised groups.’
As a physician and researcher, I’ve seen firsthand how essential DEIA is—not just as a moral imperative, but as a foundation for better science, more compassionate care, and a more just healthcare system. The pushback we’re witnessing must not deter our collective efforts. We must continue advocating for systems that uplift all communities. Our future in academic medicine depends on it.”
