Simon Heeke: Analysing ctDNA and ctRNA to improve detection of ALK rearrangements in NSCLC
Simon Heeke, Assistant Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Excited to share our most recent publication, where we explored an innovative liquid biopsy approach—analyzing both circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and circulating tumor RNA (ctRNA)—to improve detection of ALK rearrangements in patients with stage IV or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Our study found that adding ctRNA analysis significantly enhanced ALK fusion detection.
Notably, the presence of ALK rearrangements at baseline was associated with worse progression-free survival, reinforcing the importance of comprehensive liquid biopsy testing.
These findings underscore how a ctDNA and ctRNA approach can provide critical insights to guide more personalized treatment strategies and potentially refine patient outcomes.
I’m grateful to collaborate with an amazing team and excited to see how these results contribute to advancing precision medicine in NSCLC.
