The world’s first patient with sickle cell disease to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro
Sarah Cannon Research Institute shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Remember Jimi, one of our amazing CRISPR patients who was featured across many national media outlets?
Not only did he reach new healthcare heights with the CRISPR therapy, but he recently reached new heights by summiting Mount Kilimanjaro in September!
Jimi, a 39-year-old business owner from Atlanta, is the world’s first patient with sickle cell disease (SCD) to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. Patients with SCD are at serious risk of complications and death in low-oxygen environments; doctors advise against entering an elevation of 10,000+ feet.
Jimi, now functionally cured, summited Kilimanjaro at 19,341 feet! Join us in congratulating Jimi on this amazing accomplishment!”
