Sakditad Saowapa: The Importance of Early detection in Pancreatic Cancer
Sakditad Saowapa, Oncologist at UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on X:
“Early detection in pancreatic cancer remains elusive despite tech advances.
5-yr survival:
- Stage IA: ~80%
- Localized: 44%
- Regional: 16%
- Distant: 3%
Yin et al. report a cfDNA fragmentomics + ML model with 91–97% sensitivity & 93–95% specificity—promising, but PPV only ~1% in general population.
Next steps:
- Boost specificity (>99%)
- Validate in high-risk cohorts
- Integrate biomarkers + imaging + AI
Goal: minimally invasive, scalable screening to shift stage and improve survival.”
