Roselyne Okumu shared Highlights from 2nd National Cancer Summit 2025
Roselyne Okumu, University Lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“2nd National Cancer Summit 2025
The 2nd National Cancer Summit provided a crucial platform for addressing Kenya’s urgent cancer challenges. Engaging discussions underscored the need for multi-sectoral collaboration to enhance cancer care. Key findings highlighted the importance of training and developing the healthcare workforce, along with strategic resource allocation and the creation of supportive environments to prevent burnout.
Networking opportunities were abundant, allowing participants to share experiences and forge meaningful connections. A notable encounter was with Nurit Betzer Lavee and Dr. Eva, who emphasized the importance of developing a capacity-building model for African nurses. This collaboration and many successful ones will be a testament of how networking is key. The goodwill of multisectoral approach and collaborations between the industry partners and the Government of Kenya (GoK) was evident , but it was clear that more efforts are needed to bridge the cancer care gap effectively; through healthcare financing, resource allocation. capacity building and research.
We also keep celebrating the wins of our colleagues and recognition of great contributions toward cancer prevention and control by Benda Kithaka, Miriam Mutebi, Fredrick Chite Asirwa MD FASCO, DR. ELIAS MELLY, M.D, zulekha, COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF KISUMU CONGRATULATIONS to all of for the great work.
Together, we can make significant strides in improving cancer care in Kenya. A heartfelt thank you to the National Cancer Institute of Kenya and Ministry of Health, Kenya for facilitating these vital discussions and for the promise of future collaborations.”
