Livestrong and Hopecam Shared New Book for Pediatric Cancer Patients
Livestrong and Hopecam announced the upcoming release of My Brave Friend, a compassionate new children’s book created to help young readers navigate the emotional journey of supporting a friend with cancer.
Suzanne Stone, CEO of Livestrong, and Brett Fox, Director of Operations and Philanthropy at Hopecam, co-authored My Brave Friend to support elementary-aged children in understanding and coping with the pediatric cancer diagnosis of one of the 16,000 classmates, peers, or friends affected each year.
What Is My Brave Friend About?
My Brave Friend is a children’s picture book designed to help elementary-aged children understand and emotionally process what it means when a classmate is diagnosed with cancer.
Through the story of Noah and Emma, the book gently introduces:
- What cancer is?
- Why a friend might suddenly be absent from school?
- How to be supportive during treatment?
- Ways children can help a peer feel loved, included, and less alone
The narrative is emotionally reassuring, age-appropriate, and designed to foster empathy and resilience in young readers.
“This book is an invaluable resource for parents, caregivers, and teachers… I highly recommend this book for anyone or any group wishing to explain cancer to a younger child with empathy and clarity.” – Michelle Fritsch, LCSW, Pediatric Oncology Social Worker, Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers
