Julie S. Torode: 10 years after the world health assembly resolution on palliative care
Julie S. Torode, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Patient and Community Engagement, Institute of Cancer Policy at King’s College London, shared on LinkedIn a recent paper by Amina Bouothman et al. published in BMC Palliative Care:
“Disappointing to read the new MSF paper on access to opioids and especially morphine for pain relief for cancer patients in India and Bangladesh is still a major challenge 10 years after the world health assembly resolution on palliative care!
This paper sadly reveals the same challenges reported by our survey global opioid policy initiative report in 2013 led by ESMO and points to regular refresher training and hands on experience of using morphine to build provider confidence in routine use.
Renewed advocacy needed Nathan Cherny, Jim Cleary, Stephen Connor, Pallium India, Hospice Bangladesh, M.R Rajagopal, Julia Downing, Cicely Saunders Institute, Kings College London?”
