Martha Raymond Presents GI Cancer Roadmap to Address Systemic Gaps in Care
Martha Raymond, CEO of GI Cancers Alliance, shared an article with OncoDaily:
“Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers account for approximately one in four cancer related deaths, yet patients often face delayed diagnosis, fragmented care, and uneven access to treatment. This systemic challenge requires a new approach, grounded in collaboration and patient-centered care. Understanding that patients face these challenges and gaps in care, the GI Cancers Alliance convened a first-of-its-kind roundtable to define shared priorities and co-develop actionable solutions.
During our January 2025 ASCO GI meeting, we focused on understanding patient lived experiences and building consensus on the most urgent opportunities to improve care. Following our multi-stakeholder meetings, we developed ‘The Collective Action Roadmap for GI Cancers‘ – a practical, stakeholder-driven framework intended to guide actions and improvements across the GI cancer care continuum. The Roadmap details high-impact, scalable solutions for the GI cancer community, covering areas such as prevention, diagnosis, biomarker testing, tumor profiling, personalized treatment, survivorship, overall quality-of-life, and caregiver resources. The Roadmap aims to be a catalyst for lasting change in care delivery, addressing critical gaps in support services.
The Roadmap is not only a guide, but an invitation to partner with us to carry this work forward as an ongoing commitment to improving GI cancer care. We invite you to share your stories, highlight programming, and help us identify opportunities to work together. Together we are stronger. Together we can reimagine what is possible.”
