In a paper just out in Annals of Oncology, Prudente et al. show that:
- Thymic RT is associated with a higher risk of distant metastasis and death in patients treated with CRT
- Thymic sparing may particularly benefit patients with preserved thymic health, especially in CRT with consolidation IO
- Suggests that the thymus is an organ of interest for RT planning
- Patients who received higher MTDs registered measurable declines in TH at 1-year follow-up
How do we define thymic health, and if we are to avoid the thymus during RT, where should we put the dose?
