George Vlachogiannis: The Essential Nature of Social Work in Cancer Control

George Vlachogiannis, Managing Editor – Cancer Control at Sage, shared a post by Anao Zhang, Associate Professor at University of Michigan School of Social Work, adding:

“The Essential Nature of Social Work in Cancer Control
In their recent Review article published in Cancer Control, Prof Brad Zebrack and colleagues from the University of Michigan highlight the critical role of social workers across the cancer care continuum – from prevention and screening, to survivorship and end-of-life care.
Social workers are uniquely trained to address the social determinants of health that drive disparities in cancer outcomes. This mini-review argues for their essential integration into oncology teams to enhance care quality, promote equity, and improve patient outcomes, particularly for marginalized populations.
As healthcare moves toward whole-person, community-aligned models, social work stands at the forefront of equitable cancer control. This is a timely call to recognize, support, and fund oncology social work as an indispensable force in advancing cancer care.”

Quoting Anao Zhang‘s post:

“Read my latest publication with Brad Zebrack, Lauren G., Nina J. Francis-Levin and Rachel Brandon in Cancer Control outlining the essential nature of social work across the cancer control spectrum.”
